Chip spent every summer since childhood working in construction for his father’s construction company until he obtained his Bachelor of Building Construction from the University of Florida in 1982. While attending the University of Florida, Mr. Bachara was inducted into Florida Blue Key, a leadership honorary. He holds a Florida General Contractor’s license and has worked as a project manager for two of the largest construction companies in the Southeast before setting off to law school.

Chip obtained his law degree from Mercer University in 1986 and returned to Jacksonville where he immediately began working on his specialization in construction law. Through more than 20 years of construction litigation experience, Chip has handled a wide array of construction disputes including government bid protests, bridge design disputes, building failure claims and construction defect claims. He has served as counsel for state and local governmental bodies, owners, developers, contractors and suppliers. He has also been trained and served as an arbitrator in numerous complex construction cases, which provides him with insight into what a trier of fact will look for when reaching a decision in a construction dispute.

Chip has been recognized as a Board Certified Construction Lawyer by the Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization. He has lectured throughout the southeastern U.S. and has been named a Florida Super Lawyer by his peers in 2006 and 2007. Mr. Bachara co-authored “Rights and Liabilities of the Owner,” Florida Construction Law and Practice, 2nd ed. (1991) and 3rd ed. (1993). He has also contributed articles to Florida HomeBuilder Magazine; “Enforceability of Pay When Paid Clauses in Subcontracts (1997); and “Avoiding Construction Disputes & Controlling Litigation Costs” (1998).

Mr. Bachara is a member of the American Bar Association, the ABA Forum on the Construction Industry, The Florida Bar, The Florida Supreme Court’s Commission on Professionalism, The Florida Home Builders Association and the Northeast Florida Builders Association. Mr. Bachara serves as a construction arbitrator for the complex construction disputes. He has served as a State Director of the Florida Home Builders Association and chairman of the Legal Action Committee. Mr. Bachara frequently speaks to audiences of attorneys and building industry professionals regarding construction law issues and has served on numerous panels regarding professionalism among attorneys.
