Most public construction projects which are funded with tax dollars are required to be contracted for on a competitive bid basis. In light of the current economy, competition for construction project funding is fierce. Public construction projects are frequently the source of bid protests where disappointed bidders seek to have the decision of the public body overturned by the courts and have the construction contracts awarded through the protest procedure.
